The restoration of Saltwell Towers
is part of a wider scheme undertaken by Gateshead Council to restore
Saltwell Park to it's former Victorian splendour.
One of the organisations
that have aided the Council is:
"The Restorative Prison Project"
The prisoners from Her Majesty's Prisons at Acklington, Frankland, Holme
House, Durham, Kirklevington and Deerbolt have contributed to the project
by way of making and restoring some of the park furniture, restoring
wheelchairs for use by the park visitors, fencing, bird boxes etc.
