A part of Newcastle just east of the city centre. The area is bounded by New Bridge Street to the north and City Road to the south. The east and west borders are less easy to define but as far as these photos are concerned, the eastern extremity is St. Ann's Church and the western, The Sallyport Tower on Tower Street.

The Battlefield is so named, not because it is the site of some ancient conflict, but rather because of it's fame in the 19th century as a venue for dog fights!
